Connecting a specific device
Please select the operating system of your device. If your operating system is not listed below, use the configuration assistance tool to connect your device.
Connecting using the geteduroam app (recommended):
- Install the geteduroam app from Play Store, then open the app
- Under Institution, search for 'The University of Nottingham'
- Select the '.ac.uk' profile, then select 'Next'
- Enter your university email address and password
- Click 'connect to network'. You may be prompted with a message saying "geteduroam Wants to Add a Wi-Fi Hotspot Network"
- Tap 'Allow' and then 'Join' - if you are not near the eduroam wireless network at the time of setup, the device will say unable to connect, but the app will have configured the device ready
Connecting without the geteduroam app:
- Select 'Settings'
- Select 'Connections' and then 'Wi-Fi'
- Select 'eduroam' from the list of available wireless networks.
- Enter the following settings - not all of these settings may be required for your device:
-
- SSID: eduroam
- Encryption: 802.1X, WPA2-Enterprise
- EAP method: PEAP
- Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
- CA certificates: Use system certificates
- Domain: nottingham.ac.uk
- Username or Identity: Your University email address
- Outer Identity: Blank or use anonymous@nottingham.ac.uk
- Password: Your University password
- Proxy: should be set to None
You have two options:
- Download the automatic eduroam configuration file for iOS devices, or
- Download the geteduroam app from the App Store. Once the app is installed, under Institution, search for 'The University of Nottingham' and select the '.ac.uk' profile. Your username is your university email address.
If you have a problem connecting your Apple device to eduroam, install the latest device software:
Download the automatic configuration script for some Linux distributions. Your username is your university email address.
Some distributions do not support the automatic configuration tool, and should use the manual settings.
If you have a problem connecting your laptop, run a software update on your device.
