Computer rooms

Computer rooms are available that have computers for students and staff to use. These are mainly based inside libraries. 

Some computer rooms may have different software installed based on the requirements of the local faculty.

Computer rooms can also be viewed in the MyNottingham app by clicking on the ‘Maps’ tile, then selecting the ‘Computer rooms’ button at the top.

Computers in libraries

Individual spaces with computers are also available in most libraries. Simply drop in to use a non-booked space or book in advance here. Students can book two three-hour slots per day.

Using computer rooms

  • You will not be able to use computer rooms if they are booked for teaching - check room availability here (click 'Locations'). Staff can book computer rooms here 
  • You will only be able to access computer rooms outside core hours by using your university card. Be prepared to show your university card to Security staff 
  • Do not allow unauthorised people to enter computer roomc, such as by holding the door open for them
  • Save your work to your OneDrive. Never save files on computer desktops or Documents and Downloads folders
  • Log off when leaving the computer and take your personal belongings
  • A computer will 'hibernate' if it is unusued for ten minutes. If it is unused for twenty minutes, you will be logged out

Explore Moodle

Moodle is your virtual learning environment. Make sure you have completed all the steps to activate your IT account (and changed the system generated password) before accessing Moodle. To start exploring your school or department webpages, log into Moodle with your new university username and password. 

You will find information and resources to help you prepare for your course, but please allow for up to three days after you have registered for your mandatory modules to appear. When they appear, make sure to click on the video/lecture links to ensure you are registered to view all the content in there.

Printing, photocopying and scanning

You will find printers in all libraries and many teaching buildings on our campuses. You can scan files for free, but printing and photocopying are chargeable services. 

To activate your print account, please complete one of these steps: 

  • Print a document from a university computer or use the Windows Virtual Desktop, or
  • Swipe your university card at a printer and log in with your university username and password 
     

Once activated, a starting balance of 50p credit is added to your account. You can top-up your print balance at myprint.nottingham.ac.uk.

How do I print a document? 

  1. Click ‘Print’ on a university computer or on the Windows Virtual Desktop 

  2. Select ‘Mono on NottsPrint’ or ‘Colour on NottsPrint’ 

  3. Swipe your university card at a printer

  4. Click ‘Print’

  5. Select your print jobs from the list, then click ‘Print’
